SMOKEY & ME
A Celebration of Smokey Robinson

Starring Tony nominee, Charl Brown

From Motown: The Musical on Broadway and London’s West End

As the story goes; when Smokey Robinson, co-founder, star and hit making songwriter for Motown Records first met Charl Brown, the handsome young actor who portrayed him in the show, he came up to him, smiled and simply said, “Hello, Me!”.

This delightful story became the inspiration for a spectacular show that celebrates the life, music and career of acclaimed singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson, once pronounced by Bob Dylan as America’s “greatest living poet”. Smokey Robinson’s career spans over 4 decades of timeless hits which are perfectly and uncannily captured by Charl Brown who won a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Smokey in Motown: The Musical on Broadway. Charl has also appeared on Broadway and The Las Vegas Strip in the Tony Winning Best Musical smash hit Jersey Boys and the original Broadway casts of Sister Act and Elton John’s Olivier winning new musical Tammy Faye.

Act Two explores the life on stage of the actor who was fortunate enough to become Smokey every night in Motown: The Musical….taking you on a journey through Charl’s compelling musical history and songs that have had a great impact on his career from Broadway musicals like Hair, Jersey Boys, & The Wiz, pop music from Charl’s most recent Broadway collaborator Sir Elton John, jazz from the Broadway aimed new musical Charl has been working on featuring the music of Duke Ellington and rounding out the evening back where we began, ending with a medley of Smokey’s iconic songs. “Ooh Baby Baby”….It’s going to be a night to remember!
