Former NYC Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik
When Terror Strikes Our Community:
What We Need To Know and What We Need To Do

One of the most dynamic, controversial and accomplished leaders in law enforcement, correction and national security in the U.S., Bernie Kerik served his country with distinction, honor and valor, most notably as the 40th Police Commissioner of the City of New York, where his unflinching leadership and oversight of the rescue, recovery and investigation, got the people of the city through the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center on 9-11.  He is a recognized expert on post 9-11 Global Terrorism.

These days, you never know when terror will strike – the situations are in the news almost daily. It could be an active shooter situation: in a school, a theatre, a shopping mall or an airport. A bombing or bomb threat. A madman driving a vehicle into a crowd of people. A jihadist plot to wreak havoc in a high traffic location. It’s disturbing enough when it happens “somewhere else,” but what happens when terror strikes close to home?

In this important presentation about living in a post 9-11 world, Bernie begins with examples of events from his career being in charge of life-threatening situations. He then talks about the dangers in today’s world and how these dangers can affect individual communities. Bernie shares sound advice and counsel about what you need to know and what you need to do when terror strikes close to home. Bernie leaves time for live Q&A at the end. This is a much needed topic for everyone to be “in the know about” these days…and an important public service for theatres to offer to the communities they serve.
