Terry Burrell
“Backstage and other Stories”

Terry Burrell is a hugely accomplished Broadway musical actress.  Her vast Broadway credits include starring roles in more major productions on the Great White Way than most, including:  Thoroughly Modern Millie, Dreamgirls, Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, Eubie, Swinging on a Star, and she also starred as Julie in the first London production of Showboat.  Off Broadway credits include Almost Heaven, And the World Goes Round, Taking a Chance on Love.

Her Regional stage credits include: Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, Glenda/Aunt Em in The Wiz, Ella in Bubbling Brown Sugar, Conchita in Barry Manilow’s Copacabana, plus featured roles in Smokey Joe’s Café, Ain’t Misbehavin, Sophisticated Ladies, The World Goes Round and more.

Terry is also a seasoned cabaret artist who has performed her nightclub act for audiences from Monte Carlo to the Caribbean.    She has performed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra in Venice Italy and most recently for the Jazz Festival in Oslo Norway.  Terry was nominated for the Helen Hayes Best Actress in a Musical Award for her portrayal of Queenie in Duke Ellington’s Queenie Pie.

“Backstage and Other Stories” is Terry’s newest solo concert, a show you can subtitle “confessions of a Broadway star”.  After all, audiences usually experience a production that seems flawless, but like life, things can and do go wrong.  Scenery falls, actors forget lines, fail to show up for a scene, or get the lyrics wrong.  Even the antics of an audience member can stop a show cold.  As Terry says, “all of these things happened to me and in my "Backstage and Other Stories" concert, I spill the beans and then some.”  Audiences will hear songs from show Terry has performed in or that hold a very personal meaning for her…as well as a tribute to the Legendary Chanteuses who inspired her and her stellar career – from Lena Horne and Barbra Streisand to Ethel Waters, Eartha Kitt and Judy Garland.
